Care & Tips
Taking proper care of Phalaenopsis and packaged and cut Cymbidium will allow enhance and extend your enjoyment of our products.
Potted Phalaenopsis
General information
The Phalaenopsis is a genus of some 60 orchid species. The name Phalaenopsis is the combination of two Greek words: "phalaina," which means "butterfly" and "opsis," which means "similar." The Phalaenopsis originate from the tropical regions of Asia and Australia, where they mainly grow on tree branches and in rocky crevices with the help of their aerial roots.
Care
Phalaenopsis thrive under normal household temperatures between 18ºC and 22ºC. Sufficient light is a must for Phalaenopsis; however, the plant cannot take direct sunlight. Drafts should also be avoided.
Phalaenopsis require moderate watering; a good rule of thumb is about once or twice a week. They do not like to be left in standing water, however; so make sure that the pot offers sufficient drainage. After the plant goes out of bloom it is a good idea to move it to a cool and slightly drier location for two months. The cooler environment will stimulate new stem and flower growth.
Packed and cut Cymbidium
General information
Cymbidium is the hardiest orchid species in the world. The orchids are originally from the Himalayas.
Caring for cut Cymbidium
The cut Cymbidium is a stem that needs to be put in a vase. Snip the end of the main stem diagonally. This should be done once again after a number of days, at which time the water should be changed, too. Make sure to keep Cymbidium away from any drafts.
Caring for packed Cymbidium
With the packed Cymbidium, proper care is simply a question of topping up the tubes as necessary. As with all Cymbidium, avoiding drafts is very important.
